Timeline

The Agroecosystems Research Grant timeline is:

Preproposals

  • The preproposal is a brief concept document that is submitted online, usually in the late spring or summer.
  • The SARE Administrative Council decides which preproposals will progress to full proposals soon after the deadline.
  • Applicants whose projects have been selected to proceed will be notified promptly.

Full proposals

  • Full proposals are due in the fall, usually late October or early November.
  • Reviewers contact applicants by telephone in November or December to ask any questions they may have about the project
  • Finalists for funding will are invited to a face-to-face interview in late January or early February.
  • Reviewers present their recommendations to the SARE Administrative Council in late February or early March
  • Applicants learn in March whether their project was funded or not.

Grant contract, funds and project length

  • The grant contract is drawn up during April and May
  • Funds are usually available in May
  • The maximum performance period on any given contract is four years.
  • Only projects that are proceeding well will be offered a second round of funding.
