This extends a previous SARE grant to capture more data on changes in honeybee colony health as a result of reconfiguring hive entrances so that Varroa mites, once they fall off an original host bee, do not have access to other bees in the hive. This second year, when mite loads typically increase, will yield more specific data on which hive configurations have what kinds of advantages. Outreach will be at beekeepers' meeting and a beekeeping publication.
