New strains of downy mildew arrive on southerly winds and damage melons and cucumbers. The farmer will follow up on his observation that a tightly woven row cover soaked in an approved organic fungicide will keep spores from infecting cucurbits using controlled trials with treated and untreated row covers and varieties with low downy mildew resistance. Outreach will be via weekly farm tours, conferences, extension, and the media.
