How To Apply For A Graduate Student Grant
Graduate Student proposals are accepted on line only, and a link to the proposal submission template will be activated April 15, 2010, with a deadline of May 31. In the meantime, you can use materials here to begin framing your proposal and seeing how well it fits with Northeast SARE funding priorities.
Important steps in applying for this grant
- Read through the materials on this web site and make sure you understand the purpose of this grant, its requirements, and exclusions.
- Review past awards to confirm that your project is in our interest area and that you will not be merely duplicating work already funded. This is a new grant offering in the Northeast, so look at grants awarded in other regions by going to the project database and selecting "Graduate Student Grants."
- Discuss your plan with your faculty advisor. Confirm that your advisor is willing to participate and act as the principal investigator and go over the draft plan of work together. Look for problems or technical flaws, talk about the time and logistic involved, and the probable budget.
- Talk to your grants or sponsored programs office and let them know what you are planning to do. When you submit your proposal, we will need evidence that your proposal has been reviewed and approved by the institution.
- Recruit your collaborators and discuss their roles. Collect confirming letters from them as the deadline approaches.
- Draft and refine your responses to the questions, making sure you keep to the word limits. If the online template is not yet available, your can download the application as a Word file using the "for applicants" box to the right.
- Submit the application materials and send all required hard copy to Northeast SARE on or before the deadlines. The URL for online submission is in the application instructions--download this document using the "for applicants" box to your right.
