High-quality forages reduce the need for purchased feed, and practices that extend the season should benefit livestock farmers. The project manager will establish four different species of small grains on two farms and evaluate yield, quality, and winter hardiness under managed grazing and double-cropped with corn. The goal is to support farmers as they integrate small grains into their operations, and outreach will be through crop meetings, a field day, and a fact sheet.
