Shelf life and marketing window extension in sweet cherries in New York

Grant ID Number: ONE10-119
Grant Recipient: Craig Kahlke, Cornell University, Lockport NY

Modified atmosphere packaging, or MAP, has shown promise for improved shelf life in sweet cherries, and the project manager will work with growers to test MAP on varieties that have been shown to respond to the technique or have not been tested before, with some growers using their usual harvest and cooling techniques and others comparing static cooling with a rapid cooling method. The goal is to encourage understanding and adoption, and outreach on farmer experiences and industry feedback on MAP will be presented at winter fruit schools, extension, and in the agricultural media.

Grant Amount: $14,880
