Crotalaria juncea, or sunn hemp, is a tropical leguminous cover crop known to inhibit weeds and nematodes and fix high amounts of nitrogen. The project manager will test its suitability as a cover crop with tree fruit, small fruit, and vegetables, focusing on weed control, soil fertility, and tilth, and compare sunn hemp to more traditional crops like hairy vetch and buckwheat. Results will be available through farm demonstrations and outreach to extension.
