How to Apply
Important steps in applying for this grant
- Download and read the application materials. New materials for each year are normally posted in late June or early July. If you are on our mailing list and have applied before, we'll send a post card when the new applications are ready. You can also call 802-656-0471 to request a printed version.
- Find out what Northeast SARE has funded in your interest area. Is your idea addressing an important question about sustainable farming?
- Discuss your plan with your cooperating farmers. Make sure they are ready to participate in the project and understand the project design, their time commitment to it, everyone's respective roles.
- Write your responses to the questions in the application booklet.
- Develop a budget that reflects the costs involved in what you plan to do.
- Get institutional review and signoff. We need evidence that your proposal has been approved by the institutional official in charge of grants and contracts such as a sponsored programs office. If you are applying as a nonprofit, the signature of an authorized official of you governing board is required.
- Collect confirming letters from farmers. These are necessary attachments to your proposal.
- Allow time for review of livestock projects. If your project involves animals, you will need to allow time for a review from your institutional Animal Care and Use office. If you are not affiliated with a university or your university doesn't have an officer who reviews animal experiments, contact the Northeast SARE office to arrange for a review by Northeast SARE's host institution.
- Send the application materials and all required copies to Northeast SARE on or before the postmark deadline.
