How To Apply

Important steps in applying for this grant

  1. Submit a preproposal outlining your performance targets, key project components, draft budget, and likely collaborators. Northeast SARE accepts preproposals on line from early April until the end of May.
  2. If your preproposal is selected to go forward to a full proposal, read the Guide for Applicants and all application materials carefully. These are normally sent in August.
  3. Build and refine your performance target and project content through searches and other inquiries, and develop a budget that accurately reflects project content.
  4. Write your proposal. Proposals may require several drafts before they comply with the application format and its space limitations.
  5. Develop your final budget. Verify that you are using the right budget categories and are proposing to use SARE funds appropriately.
  6. Make sure you budget enough time for all necessary institutional review and approval.
  7. Mail or bring the original proposal and the required number of double-sided copies to Northeast SARE before the deadline; also, e-mail a soft copy of the proposal to nesare@uvm.edu before the deadline.
  8. Be prepared to respond a telephone call about your project as the review process proceeds. If your proposal makes it to the final pool, you will also be asked to come to a face-to-face interview, often in late January or early February.
