Pumpkin seeds, garlic, ginger, and papaya seeds are all thought to have potential as natural dewormers, and the FAMACHA technique for integrated parasite management has emerged as another method of improving the health of small ruminants. Using on-farm studies, the project manager will test the effect of these natural dewormers and management techniques on parasite growth and monitor the effect of natural deworming on meat quality, cost, and overall effectiveness. As a result of the project, 15 small-ruminant producers will decrease their reliance on chemical parasite control and through a combination of FAMACHA and natural plant dewormers.
