There is a rising demand for local food, and farmers benefit from access to affordable, safe slaughter and poultry processing. They need training in safe food handling, sanitation, wastewater and solid waste management, humane slaughter, and a range of other issues as required by regulators. The project manager will work with farmers and regulators to deliver content and materials that can be adopted throughout the Northeast. Of the 125 poultry producers enrolled, 75 will complete regulator and practical skills training and implement new production, processing, and food safety practices on their farms; within two years, at least 45 will increase market access, profits, and complete the requirements to process poultry using a mobile processing unit.
