What Can Be Funded

Types of funded projects

Research and Education projects can cover a wide range of topics--recently SARE has funded cover crop trials, farm-based energy, new approaches to livestock health, nutrient management and recycling, agritourism, and new directions in integrated crop and pest management, among other things.

In the course of these projects SARE funds have also been used to produce books, videos, webcasts, and other media tools to improve participants' understanding of sustainable techniques.

Focus of funded projects

Whatever the actual topic, the project outcome must focus on a measurable change in farm practices and management that improves sustainability. For example, it would not be enough to hold a series of demonstrations on making alternative fuels from canola.

Instead, farmers engaged in the project must do something differently as a result of these demonstrations, and you, as project manager, must be prepared to measure that difference.
