New Hampshire is the fastest-growing state in the region, and there are not enough public or private dollars available to land trusts and conservation organizations to purchase all the land that likely needs preserving. The project manager will work with farmers, educators, municipalities, lawmakers, and others to explore how easements on agricultural land can be financed through installment purchase agreements. These allow landowners to get semiannual tax-exempt interest over a long term, rather than a lump sum all at once. The goal is to develop the groundwork and see if a test transaction is beneficial to the farmer, the community, the town, and the environment.
