School cooks have shown interest in purchasing more local food, which opens a new market for farmers. The project manager will develop and strengthen purchasing partnerships between schools and the farm community, improve student access to fresh food, and build models for students and families to use when choosing local food. Outreach will be through extension, organic grower networks, and the nonprofit sector as well as making key information available on a web site.
