Recent research indicates that the demand for local food outstrips the supply, but there are also needs for shorter marketing channels and improved storage capacity. This pilot launch of a CSA-style drop-box scheme will serve 100 families and generate $50,000 in gross sales for farmers, with the ultimate goal of serving up to 600 families by 2011. The project manager will develop the business plan, enlist farmers and customers, establish drop-off sites, and seek capital investment; part of the project plan is to develop replication materials so that the practice can be studied and adopted in other communities.
