How To Apply
Important steps in applying for this grant
- Download and read the application materials. New materials for each year are normally posted in late June or early July. If you are on our mailing list and have applied before, we'll send a post card when the new applications are ready. You can also call 802-656-0471 to request a printed version.
- Find out what Northeast SARE has funded in your interest area by using the searchable project database at www.sare.org. Is your idea fresh and interesting? Is it addressing an important question about sustainable rural economic development?
- Discuss your plan with others. At least one farmer is required as a cooperator, and most proposals list have other cooperators as well. Make sure all of them they are ready to participate in the project and understand the project design, their time commitment to it, everyone's respective roles. Ask each of them to write a letter describing their role and the specific tasks they will perform.
- Write your responses to the questions asked in the application booklet.
- Develop a budget that reflects the costs involved in what you plan to do.
- Get organizational review and signoff. If you are applying as a college or land grant, an official in charge of grants and contracts such as a sponsored programs office should review the proposal and sign off on it. If you are applying as a nonprofit, the signature of an authorized official of you governing board is required.
- Collect those confirming letters from your collaborators described above. We require these as attachments to your proposal.
- Send the application materials and all required copies to Northeast SARE on or before the postmark deadline.
