Delaware State Programs

The Northeast SARE region supports sustainable agriculture initiatives at each of the sixteen land grant universities in the Northeast. The Delaware SARE state program is housed at Delaware State University and the University of Delaware.

State Coordinators and Regional Educator

John Clendaniel coordinates the SARE program at Delaware State University and Susan White-Hansen coordinates the SARE program at the University of Delaware. Jason Challandes is the Regional SARE Educator for Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. John, Susan and Jason are available to answer questions about SARE grant programs and local sustainable agriculture initiatives, and can provide access to technical support, resources and referrals.

Delaware Initiatives

State programs promote the adoption of sustainable farming techniques and awareness of SARE funding, project results, training, and other opportunities. Yet these state programs also vary quite a lot in content and direction, reflecting the needs and challenges of farmers and farm service providers within that particular state. Some states also work cooperatively, sharing resources and personnel, when they have issues and goals in common.

State initiatives are funded annually and competitively, which allows each state to respond quickly to local changes in production, marketing, and educational priorities. Read more about this state's program initiatives.
