He provides training to producers and agricultural service providers and conducts applied research in weed science. Bill's research program focuses on managing problem weeds in corn, soybean, small grains, and forage crops; exploring the effect of cover crops on weed emergence and herbicide efficacy, and on managing weeds in conservation tillage systems.

Bill is an expert on pesticide use issues and has participated extensively at national and regional conferences as well as contributed in several national pesticide use and issue surveys. He also works closely with producers and agribusiness in assessing farm management skills and in conducting applied research at the farm level.

Bill got his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He has lived and worked in several agricultural settings in the Midwest, western, and eastern U.S. including his native New Mexico, where he was raised on a small irrigated alfalfa and hay operation.
